DENVER (AP) - Colorado Rockies right-hander Jason Hirsh was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, a day after sprained his right ankle avoiding a pickoff attempt at third base.
The Rockies purchased the contract of right-hander Matt Herges from AAA Colorado Springs to take his place.
Hirsh is 4-7 with a 4.90 ERA and 66 strikeouts, second-most by an NL rookie. He was in the midst of his best game Monday night - six shutout innings, three hits - when he got hurt. After his second single of the game, he reached third base, where he rolled his right ankle on a pickoff attempt from the catcher.
The 37-year-old Herges was with the Rockies from April 19-20, appearing in two games and allowing four runs - three earned - in three innings. At Colorado Springs, he went 2-1 with a 1.27 ERA in 35 and one-third innings. Opponents were hitting .194 off him and he had 33 strikeouts and 10 walks.
