Rainiers 12, Sky Sox 5

COLORADO SPRINGS - Adam Jones went 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBI as the Tacoma Rainiers (26-38) defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (30-30) 12-5 in front of 5,495 fans Sunday afternoon at Security Service Field.

For the first time in the series both the Sox and the Rainiers failed to score in the first inning. However, it didn’t take long for the Sky Sox to score with Alvin Colina driving in Joe Koshansky in the second to take the lead 1-0. Alexis Gomez followed with a single and Jayson Nix drove in Colina with a sacrifice fly to center after another single by Cory Sullivan. Following the single, Clint Barmes cleared the bases with a triple for a 4-0 lead.

Tacoma answered the next inning with Jones continuing his hot hitting with an RBI single to score Ron Prettyman for the Rainiers first run.

Rob Johnson tied the game at four in the fourth inning with a three run shot to left field off Sox right-hander Jorge DePaula (5-2).

Jones added another hit and LaHair hit a ground rule double the next inning and Wladimir Balentien cleared the bases with a triple off the leftfield wall. Jeff Clement capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Balentien and the Rainiers took a 7-4 lead.

The Sky Sox cut the deficit to 7-5 in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot by Ian Stewart his four homer of the series.

Oswaldo Navarro hit the fourteenth home run of the series between the teams and Adam Jones hit a RBI triple for his eleventh hit of the series to give the Rainiers a 9-5 lead in the sixth.

Tacoma added three more run in the eighth with Jones delivering again with a two-run single and Balentein added a run-scoring groundout.

Right-hander Jorge Campillo (5-4) won the battle of the Jorges going six innings allowing five runs on ten hits.

The Sky Sox travel to Salt Lake Monday to take on the division leading Salt Lake Bees. Right-hander Mike Esposito (2-0, 7.83) goes for the Sky Sox and left-hander Jon Rouwenhorst (5-2, 4.55) takes the mound for the Bees.
