DENVER (AP) - Broncos backup receiver David Kircus says he's certain he'll be cleared of an assault charge stemming from a fight that landed him in jail.
The fight sent a 26-year-old man in the hospital.
In his first public comments since his arrest May 21st, Kircus says he took a lie-detector test to show how confident he was that he wasn't in the wrong.
Tuesday, coach Mike Shanahan said the test persuaded him to allow Kircus to stay on the team. Shanahan had pledged to release Kircus if it was determined he was at fault in the fight.
Kircus said he told Shanahan he didn't throw the first punch and was acting in self-defense.
He still faces a second-degree assault charge but is attending practice with the team.
