Eads 8, Granada 5

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) Left-handed pitcher Kenan Gooden went the distance for Eads in an 8-5 victory over neighboring Granada to give the Eagles their first baseball state championship in the Class 1A title game Saturday.

Eads (15-2) defeated Community Christian 19-3 in the morning semifinal to reach the title game. Granada (14-5) advanced with a 10-6 win over Haxtun in eight innings.

Eads was able to save Gooden, a senior, to pitch the title game.

``We had a little advantage,'' Eads coach Billy Koehler said. Gooden (8-1) struck out nine and allowed seven hits.

The score was tied 4-4 before a four-run outburst from Eads in the fourth inning.

Kevin Lindholm, A.J. Bolin and Hayden Uhland each had two hits for the Eagles.
