Sky Sox 5, Sounds 2

The streaking Colorado Springs Sky Sox won their fourth game in a row as they downed the Nashville Sounds 5-2 on Thursday afternoon at Security Service Field in front of 6,476 fans. Jorge De Paula (3-0) tossed seven solid inning to pick up the victory and Chris Oxspring (2-2) took the loss. Mike Gallo worked a perfect ninth to notch his fourth save of the season. The four-game winning streak matches the longest the Sox had throughout the entire 2006 season.

Locked up in a pitcher's duel, the Sky Sox got on the board first with two runs in the fifth. Catcher Alvin Colina got things started when he smashed his first homer of the year, a solo shot, off the scoreboard in left-center field. Jayson Nix followed up with a walk and came around to score after the Sounds committed two errors in the inning. The two errors snapped a 39.2 inning errorless streak for Nashville.

Nashville got an unearned run back in the sixth off De Paula after Jose Macias led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a groundout and advanced home on a throwing error by Joe Koshanksy. It would prove to be the only run De Paula would surrender as he finished the day with 7.0 innings, three hits, one walk and six strikeouts. He also lowered his team-leading ERA to 2.14.

The Sox got the run back in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI single by Koshanksy that plated Ryan Spilborghs, who led off the inning with a double, but Nashville battled back with a run in the eighth. Pinch-hitter Ozzie Chavez delivered the key hit as he singled with two outs to score Macias to make the score 3-2.

Koshanksy gave the Sox some insurance runs in the eighth with his fourth homer of the season. Cory Sullivan led off the inning with a walk and trotted home on the two-run bomb to run the score to 5-2.

Game four is scheduled for tomorrow evening at 6:05 PM as the Sox look to sweep the four-game series. The pitching match-up is a highly touted one as the #1 prospects for both organizations take the mound. RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (1-3, 7.20) will take the mound for the Sky Sox opposite RHP Yovani Gallardo (4-1, 2.19).
