Sky Sox 2, Sounds 0

Bobby Keppel (1-1) and three Sky Sox relievers combined to toss a four-hit shutout over the Nashville Sounds on Wednesday morning at Security Service Field in front of 6,862 fans. The 2-0 blanking was the first shutout victory of the season for the Sky Sox and also gives the team their first three-game winning streak of the 2007 campaign.

Keppel tossed 5.2 innings and gave up just four hits and a walk while striking out one. He also benefited from three double play balls. Relievers Mike Gallo, Matt Herges and Ryan Speier combine to toss the final 3.1 innings to preserve the win. Speier worked a perfect ninth to notch his fifth save of the season.

The Sox got on the board with their first run in the second when Alexis Gomez lined a two-out double to right-center field and came around to score on a triple by Jayson Nix. Nix smashed the ball to centerfield and Charles Thomas attempted to make a leaping catch but missed the ball and had it bounce off the wall and roll back towards the infield. Nix motored around the bases and attempted make it an inside-the-park homer but was thrown out at the plate on a close play to end the inning.

In the third, the Sox put up their final run, another two-out RBI, to make the score 2-0. Clint Barmes and Seth Smith each singled with one out to put runners at first and second before Ryan Spilborghs struck out. Ian Stewart then smacked a single through the left side to plate Barmes and extend his hitting-streak to four games.

Tomorrow's game is scheduled for a 10:35 AM start with RHP Jorge De Paula (2-0, 3.21) taking on RHP Chris Oxspring (2-1, 2.01).
