An attorney for a man arrested in last week's gang sweep says investigators believe his client may have been present when Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed.
Anthony Viorst told The Denver Post in Thursday's editions that a prosecutor told him that investigators believe his client may have been in an SUV that was carrying the gunman or gunmen who shot Williams.
Viorst represents 29 year old Vernon Edwards of Aurora, who faces drug-trafficking charges.
Edwards' sister and girlfriend say it's not true. They say Edwards was home sick in bed the day Williams was killed.
Prosecutors declined to comment.
The 24 year old Williams was struck once in the neck and two other passengers were wounded when at least 14 shots were fired into a stretch Hummer that had just left a New Year's Eve party at a nightclub.
Edwards was arrested on cocaine trafficking charges in massive gang sweep on April 26th. He pleaded not guilty yesterday.
