COLO. SPRINGS - The Sky Sox downed their Major League Affiliate today as they defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Friday afternoon at Security Service Field in front of a raucous crowd of 6,181 fans. Bobby Keppel picked up the victory after giving up just two runs over five innings while the loss went to Ubaldo Jimenez who gave up four runs on six hits over five innings. Ryan Speier gave up a run in the ninth but held the Rockies in check after that to notch the save.
The Rockies got out to a 2-0 early lead as they plated two runs in the first inning on a Garrett Atkins sac fly and a Matt Holiday RBI single but the Sox battled back to take the lead for good in the fifth.
In the fifth, catcher Alvin Colina led off the inning with a deep home run to left center and Clint Barmes tied the game with a RBI single. Outfielder Seth Smith then delivered a two-run single to center to score two as the Sox took the lead and held on to win. It was the fifth straght victory for the Sox over their Major League affilate and pushed their record to 6-2 against the Rockies since 1993.
