The Colorado Avalanche have acquired defenseman Brian Fahey from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Nigel Williams.
The 28-year-old Fahey scored 24 points in 66 games with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack last season. He spent the 2007-08 season with the league's Chicago Wolves, where he helped lead the club to the Calder Cup title with 10 points in the postseason.
The Glenview, Ill., native was the 119th overall pick in the 2000 NHL draft. He played at Wisconsin, where he was picked for the WCHA All-Rookie Team in 1999-2000.
Williams was Colorado's second selection in 2006. He had 21 points in 70 games for the Lake Erie Monsters during last season.
