Sacramento ended a 28-inning scoreless streak in the ninth inning but fell short in a 3-2 loss to Colorado Springs on Friday night at Raley Field. The River Cats scored two runs on the ninth (Tommy Everidge and Matt Carson hit RBI singles), but left the tying and go-ahead runs on first and second when Chris Denorfia struck out and Gregorio Petit lined out to short to end the game.
Sacramento starter Shawn Chacon (1-1), the former National League All-Star, allowed only three hits and one run over 7.0 innings but took the loss. Colorado Springs starter Jason Hirsh (5-4) threw 6.2 scoreless innings for the win. Sacramento reliever Henry Rodriguez allowed two runs to score in the top of the ninth, which gave the Sky Sox the three-run cushion.
