The Colorado Rockies announced this afternoon that the club in a letter dated May 19, 2009 gave notice to officials with the City of Tucson, Arizona that the team intends to make arrangements to relocate its spring training and year-round player development operations to a new facility outside of the Tucson area beginning with the 2011 spring season.
“The City of Tucson has served as a tremendous host to our organization and fans since our inception,” said Rockies President, Keli McGregor. “The citizens, businesses and City of Tucson have been our partners for the better part of two decades and we will always be grateful for the opportunities and commitment they have provided us.”
