Colorado Springs used an early seven-run cushion to hold off a late Sacramento charge in beating the River Cats 7-4 at Raley Field on Saturday night before 12,909 fans. The Sky Sox victory brings them within a half-game of the River Cats (34-22) for the best record in the Pacific Coast League.
Colorado Springs (33-22) lead-off man Eric Young Jr., the son of former major league second baseman Eric Young, recorded three runs and stole his league-high 37th base in the Sky Sox win. Sacramento, which didn’t allow Colorado Springs to score after the third inning, rallied with two in the fifth and one each in the sixth and eighth.
