The Colorado Rockies announced the following roster moves prior to tonight’s game: Right-handed pitcher Jason Grilli was designated for assignment and outfielder Matt Murton was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Additionally, the club has reinstated right-handed pitcher Matt Daley from the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Carlos Gonzalez. Daley and Gonzalez (No. 5) will both be in uniform for tonight’s game in St. Louis.

Grilli, 32, is 0-1 with one save and a 6.05 ERA (19.1 ip, 13 er) in 22 appearances as a reliever this season. He pitched 1.0 inning last night at Houston, allowing one run on 2 hits and a walk. He has allowed runs in each of his last 5 appearances, including 7 of his last 9 outings. The right-hander finished April with a 1.08 ERA (8.1 ip, 1 er), but logged a 9.90 ERA (10.0 ip, 11 er) in the month of May. Grilli was acquired by the Rockies from Detroit in exchange for minor league right-hander Zach Simons on April 30, 2008. He has pitched in 73 games since his Rockies debut last season.

Murton, 27, is hitting .267 (12-for-45) with one home run and 6 RBI in 22 games for the Rockies this season. He started last night’s game vs. Houston in the cleanup spot and finished 1-for-5 with 2 RBI. Murton has started eight games for club since he was recalled from Triple-A on April 29. He was acquired by Colorado in exchange for minor league infielder Corey Wimberly on February 4, 2009.

Daley, who will turn 27-years-old on June 23, is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA (8.2 ip, 4 er) in 9 games with the Rockies during his first Major League stint. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 18 with a left foot sprain. He suffered the injury by stepping on a bat while backing up a throw behind home plate on May 17 at Pittsburgh. He made 2 rehab appearances at Triple-A Colorado Springs, pitching a total of 2.0 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. The club purchased Daley’s contract from Triple-A Colorado Springs on April 22, when left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales was placed on the disabled list (left shoulder strain). Daley, undrafted out of college (Bucknell University), signed with the Rockies as an undrafted free agent in the summer of 2004.

Gonzalez, 23, owns a .339 (65-for-192) batting average with 10 home runs and 59 RBI for the Triple-A Sky Sox. His 59 RBI lead all of minor league baseball. Gonzalez ranks 9th in the Pacific Coast League in average and 2nd in extra-base hits (29). He also ranks 2nd in the league with 7 triples and 3rd in runs scored (42). The left-handed hitter batted .353 (36-for-102) with 7 home runs and 28 RBI in May. He has played the majority of his games in center field, while also playing right field.
