Granada Wins 1A State Baseball Championship

The third time was the charm for the Granada Bobcats. After losing to rival Eads in back to back state title games in 2007 and '08, the Bobcats claimed the title on Friday with a 1-0 win in eight innings over Caliche.

As the score indicates it was a defensive battle from outset and went scoreless into extra innings. In the top of the 8th inning Mike Ortiz hit a chopper towards second base which wasn't handled by the second baseman. That allowed Aaron Vega to come around from second to score what would prove to be the winning run.

Christian Dulac started the game on the mound for Granada and pitched six shutout innings before handing it over to Chris Deleon who picked up the win in relief.

The championship is the third state title for Manuel Gonzales who is in his 36th year as the head coach of the Bobcats.
