Air Force dropped a 12-2 Mountain West Conference baseball game at San Diego State Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The loss dropped the Falcons to 14-34, 3-15 while the Aztecs improved to 34-19, 13-8.
San Diego State extended a 1-0 lead with four runs in the fourth inning to pull away for good. The Aztecs also plated four runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh. Air Force scored both of its runs in the fourth inning.
SDSU starter Tyler Lavigne (6-1), struck out 11 in 6.2 innings, allowing two runs in the win.
Air Force starter Michael Ceci (1-4) took the loss, allowing four runs in three innings pitched. Evan Abrecht, Jake Petro, Michael Ruvolo and Aaron Kurcz also pitched in relief for the Falcons.
The Falcons were held to six hits on the day. Addison Gentry led the way, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and runs scored. Tytus Moss scored Air Force’s other run and Ben Ausbun also had an RBI.
San Diego State had 14 hits on the day. Erik Castro led the way, going 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs and two RBIs. Ryan O’Sullivan also homered and added three RBIs.
Air Force returns to action Thursday, May 14, hosting New Mexico.
