Kory Sperry didn't hear his name called during the NFL Draft, but it didn't take long for him to become a member of an NFL team.
Late Sunday night, the former CSU tight end signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers.
Sperry was a standout at tight end for the Rams almost from the moment he stepped on campus, seeing action early in his freshman campaign and quickly becoming one of the Rams’ most dangerous weapons in the passing game.
Unfortunately, in his second game of the 2007 season, Sperry suffered a season-ending knee injury, casting doubt on his NFL stock.
But last season he returned as good as ever – stronger, in fact, than he was before the injury. Proving that he had fully recovered, he hauled in 38 passes and scored six TDs for the Rams in 2008, including an incredible touchdown catch just before halftime of the team’s eventual New Mexico Bowl victory.
Sperry is a 2004 graduate of Pueblo County High School.
