Baseball fans are already visiting the ticket window at Coors Field in downtown Denver this morning, hoping to score admission to the Colorado Rockies' 2009 home opener.
The 2-1 Rockies will play host to the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game series starting at 2:10 this afternoon. Colorado right-hander Jason Marquis will face the World Series and NLCS MVP, left-hander Cole Hamels.
This season will mark the first in several years in which the Rockies won't have Matt Holliday to pester pitchers and energize the crowds at Coors Field. He was traded to Oakland over the winter.
Instead, Colorado will rely on a bevy of youngsters including Seth Smith, Ian Stewart, Ryan Spilborghs and Dexter Fowler to roam the cavernous outfield and try to provide some pop at the plate.
