Dan Lawson scored at 15:59 of the second overtime to give Vermont a 3-2 victory over Air Force on Saturday night in the NCAA East Regional final.
Lawson beat Andrew Volkening with a hard shot from the blue line that appeared to through the net. After a lengthy video review, the referees ruled it a goal.
Vermont (22-11-5) advanced to the Frozen Four for the second time in school history, joining the 1996 team. In the national semifinals April 9 in Washington, the Catatmounts will face the winner of the Northeast Regional final Sunday between top-seeded Boston University and New Hampshire.
Lawson gave Vermont a 2-1 lead at 9:29 of the third period with a slap shot from the point, but Air Force’s Sean Bertsch tied it 1:49 later. Paul Weisgarber opened the scoring for Air Force (28-11-2), and Josh Burrows tied it early in the third.
