Jacques Lamoureaux scored with 1:36 left in the third period to lift Air Force to a 4-3 win over Sacred Heart in the first game of the Atlantic Hockey Association best-of-three quarterfinals on last night.
The winner of the best-of-three advances to the AHA final four next weekend in Rochester, N.Y.
Andrew Volkening had 22 saves for the Falcons, while Stefan Drew tallied 37 blocked shots for the Pioneers.
Also scoring goals for Air Force were Scott Kozlak, Derrick Burnett and Jeff Hajner. All three of their goals came during the second period.
Sacred Heart was led by Erik Boisvert with two goals; teammate Matt Gingera added one.
Air Force swept Sacred Heart during the regular season by scores of 4-1, 4-3, 8-1 and 7-1.
The Falcons and Pioneers meet for the second game of the series tonight (Saturday) at the Cadet Ice Arena.
