Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is trying to prove to the Colorado Rockies that he belongs on the 25-man roster.
Gonzalez is in competition with Seth Smith, Ian Stewart and others for the starting left field spot and for playing time in the other two positions. But he has had a tendency to over-swing and not wait for the right pitches.
He's trying to prove himself this spring in Arizona.
The Rockies acquired Gonzalez from Oakland in November as part of the Matt Holliday trade. Colorado also received relief pitcher Huston Street and left-handed pitcher Greg Smith.
