Brady Ohlsen recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds, but the Tigers couldn’t overcome an 18-point first-half deficit and dropped a 76-66 decision to Millaps College on Sunday at Reid Gymnasium.
The Majors improved to 7-15 overall and 4-8 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Millsaps trails Southwestern University by a half game in the West Division for the fourth and final playoff spot. The Tigers dropped to 4-17 overall and 3-9 in the SCAC with three conference games remaining.
Colorado College trailed 14-10 after a Jeff Smith layup with 12:12 remaining in the first half, but made just three of its next nine shots from the floor as the Majors went on a 27-13 run. CC scored the final five points of the first half, but still trailed 41-38 after 20 minutes.
The Tigers battled back and trailed by only eight points after a lay-up by Ohlsen with 8:53 remaining, only to see Millsaps counter with a 16-5 run that gave the Majors a 19-point advantage with 3:24 to play.
Colorado College scored 12 straight points to pull within seven with 1:07 to go, but that was as close as they would get. CC finished with a season-high 13 three pointers, making seven of 12 in the second half.
Chad Songy made four of six three-point attempts and led the Majors with 18 points. Chris Sanders had a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Nate Brodman made four of 10 shots from behind the arc and finished with a season-high 17 points. Ohlsen added a career-high seven assists.
