Minnesota men's hockey coach Don Lucia still doesn't know the exact cause of his sudden illness.
But doctors have narrowed down his condition to either an infection or an inflammation of a particular nerve that runs inside his forehead and around his face.
Lucia has had persistent numbness in the area and bad headaches for more than three weeks, and several medical tests haven't pinpointed the cause.
But Lucia said it's not cancer or a stroke. All serious conditions have been ruled out, and he'll have another series of tests next week.
Medicine has helped dull the pain. Despite losing 10 pounds and looking pale and drawn Thursday, Lucia said he'll be on the bench this weekend when the Gophers play St. Cloud State.
