Freshman guard Kwame Vaughn made two free throws with just over 3 seconds remaining Saturday to lift San Francisco to a 65-63 win over Colorado State.

Vaughn was fouled by the Rams’ Dontae Bryant while driving to the basket and sank both foul shots to put the Dons ahead. Bryant missed a shot at the buzzer, giving San Francisco the win.

Under first-year coach Rex Walters, the Dons (5-1) are off to their best start in nearly a decade.

Dior Lowhorn had 16 points and nine rebounds for San Francisco while Blake Wallace added 15 points and four rebounds.

Marcus Walker scored 22 points and had six rebounds and five assists for Colorado State (3-3). Walker’s 13-foot jumper with 1:01 left tied the game at 63-63
