The L.A. Dodgers have acquired veteran right-hander Greg Maddux in a trade with the San Diego Padres, according to a person familiar with the deal who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.
Whom the Dodgers dealt to San Diego was not immediately known. Maddux, 42, is 6-9 this season with a 3.99 ERA. The future Hall of Famer has 353 career victories. Maddux, who was acquired by the Dodgers in 2006 from the Chicago Cubs, is expected to arrive in time for the Dodgers' game against the Colorado Rockies.
Maddux probably will fill the spot vacated by Brad Penny, who was placed on the disabled list last week because a shoulder injury.
