Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic says he hopes to have a decision later this month about whether he will play this coming season, or hang up his skates and retire.
Sakic has been mulling retirement, and talked about it Monday morning during an interview on Denver's KKFN-FM, "The Fan."
Sakic says he needed some extra time this year, and that whether to retire or play has been a very, very difficult decision to make.
He says he wants to make sure that whatever decision he makes, he's 100 percent sure.
Sakic missed 38 games after hernia surgery last season.
The star center says team management has told him to take all the time he needs to make his decision.
The Avs report for physicals September 19th.
Training camp starts the next day.
