HAINING, China (AP) -- Diana Taurasi poured in 21 points and the U.S. women's basketball team pulled away late in the first half of a 93-58 rout of Russia in the FIBA Diamond Ball tournament. It was the first meeting between the two teams since the Russians beat the Americans in the 2006 world championship semifinals.
American Becky Hammon scored 10 points for the Russians, who trailed 43-19 at halftime.
Hammon is part of the Russian team after failing to make the 29-player pool used to select the U.S. team. Hammon became a naturalized citizen in Russia and is allowed to compete for the country in the Olympics because she never played for the U.S. in any major FIBA sanctioned international games.
