The Colorado Rockies announced this afternoon that infielder Ian Stewart has been recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room for him on the roster, infielder Jayson Nix has been designated for assignment. Stewart (#24) will be in uniform for tonight’s game vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Stewart, 23, was batting .280 (72-for-257) with 19 home runs and 57 RBI in 69 games for the Sky Sox this season. He currently ranks fourth in the Pacific Coast League with a .607 slugging percentage. This will mark Stewart’s second appearance with the Rockies this season, as he hit .218 (12-for-55) with 3 home runs and 5 RBI in 18 games from May 24-June 20.

Nix, 25, was hitting .182 (2-for-11) with a double and 2 walks since he was recalled on July 8. Overall, the Rockies' 2008 Opening Day second baseman is hitting .125 (7-for-56) with 2 RBI in 22 games with the Rockies this season.

The Rockies now have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
