Todd Helton says pain in his leg related to a disc problem was responsible for putting him on the disabled list last week.
The Rockies' first baseman told The Denver Post he plans to get a pain-relieving injection today and then see what happens next.
The 34-year-old has long struggled with back problems but this is the first time he's experienced pain in his leg.
He refuses to blame the injury for his recent slump, though. Helton brought a career .332 batting average into the season but has hit just .266 with seven homers and 29 RBIs.
