Edgar Gonzalez's second homer of the game capped San Diego's seven-run ninth inning as the Padres ended their eight-game losing streak with a 15-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

San Diego rallied from five runs down and set a season high for runs scored in its first visit to Coors Field since the teams played a one-game playoff on Oct. 1, 2007.

The Rockies have lost eight straight and nine of their last 10 to fall into last place in the NL West, a half-game behind the Padres. They are a season-high 19 games below .500.

The game was tied at 8 entering the ninth when the Padres jumped on Rockies closer Brian Fuentes (1-4). He gave up five of the seven runs before being lifted for Luis Vizcaino, who served up Jody Gerut's three-run homer and Gonzalez's solo shot a batter later. It was Gonzalez's first career multihomer game.

Heath Bell (6-3) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the win.

The Padres trailed 8-3 before rallying in the sixth to tie it. Kevin Kouzmanoff opened the inning with his 11th homer as San Diego sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning.

The Rockies built the five-run lead on a three-run double by Chris Iannetta in the first and a three-run homer by Brad Hawpe in the third. They added runs in the fourth and fifth, chasing Padres starter Greg Maddux after 4 2-3 innings, his second-shortest start of the season.

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa threw five-plus innings. He left after giving up Kouzmanoff's homer and singles by Chase Headley and Khalil Greene to lead off the sixth for San Diego. Pinch-hitter Tony Clark had an RBI single, Gerut grounded into fielder's choice to score a run, and Gonzalez and Gerut had consecutive RBI singles.

San Diego took a 1-0 lead on Gonzalez's homer in the first, but Colorado came right back in the bottom of the inning. Matt Holliday singled, Hawpe and Garrett Atkins walked to load the bases, and Iannetta doubled down the left-field line on Maddux's first pitch to make it 3-1.

After the Padres rallied in the top of the third with four straight two-out singles to tie it at 3, Todd Helton singled and Holliday walked to lead off the bottom of the inning. Hawpe followed with his 11th homer of the season to make it 6-3.

The Rockies made it 7-3 on back-to-back doubles by Willy Taveras and Helton in the fourth. Maddux left after giving up a triple to Atkins and a two-out single by Troy Tulowitzki that made it 8-3. ^Notes:@ Padres RHP Chris Young hand surgery Monday to correct a deviated septum and repair his nasal fracture.
