The Colorado Rockies selected lefty Christian Friedrich with the 25th overall pick in the baseball draft Thursday, the third straight year the team has chosen a pitcher with its first-round selection.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Friedrich was drafted out of Eastern Kentucky. He's the first southpaw taken by the Rockies in the first round since Jeff Francis went ninth overall in 2002.
The defending NL champions went with right handed pitchers in the first round the past two drafts, taking Casey Weathers with the eighth pick last year and Greg Reynolds with the second pick in 2006.
