Broncos Quarterback Jay Cutler confirms to our sister station in Denver he has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
With Type 1 diabetes the pancreas stops producing insulin, which is needed to convert food into energy. This diagnosis means Cutler will be dependent on insulin for the rest of his life.
Cutler will also have to monitor his diet, especially the carbohydrates, but modern medicine allows people to live long and healthy lives after diagnosis.
The disease has not affected his ability to play with the team. Cutler has been participating in post-season practices with the Broncos.
