Players, coaches, fans and people around the N-F-L are looking for answers this morning, following the sudden death of a 49ers offensive lineman after a pre-season game in Denver.
Twenty-three-year-old Thomas Herrion collapsed in the locker room shortly after a postgame meeting with coach Mike Nolan.
Medics administered C-P-R until an ambulance rushed Herrion to a hospital, where he died a short time later. His teammates were informed while waiting to board a plane at Denver International Airport.
Team spokesman Aaron Salkin called it a "colossal tragedy for the 49ers and the entire N-F-L community."
Herrion was on the field for San Francisco's 14-play, 91-yard drive that led to a touchdown with two seconds remaining.
The cause of death is unknown.
------
Herrion was a first-year player with the 49ers who played college ball at Utah. He'd also played with the Hamburg Sea Dogs of the N-F-L Europe, and spent part of last season with the San Francisco and Dallas practice squads.
Herrion was a native of Fort Worth, Texas.
