INDIANAPOLIS - Dustin Dalzell shot a 75 in the third and final round to lead No. 17 University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the Brickyard Invitational today. The Mountain Lions shot a 305 among its top four golfers in the final round and finished No. 14 in the team standings overall.
UCCS shot only six strokes off of its team total from yesterday's second round, and it marked a two-stroke improvement from the opening round. The Mountain Lions were competing against seven other teams nationally ranked in the latest Nike/Golf World Division II poll.
Dalzell led UCCS in each of the three rounds with 75-74-75 and finished in a tie for No. 32 overall with 224. Dylan Mitchell matched Dalzell's opening round performance and then shot one stroke off of him in the next two rounds to finish with 226 for No. 38 overall.
Stephen Cook shot a 76 in the final round with Mitchell to finish with a total score of 228 and in a tie for No. 45. Zach Tripp provided the final score for the Mountain Lions in the third round with a 78, and finished with a 233 overall.
The Mountain Lions finished two strokes behind regional teammate St. Edward's, and seven strokes behind 11th-place Indianapolis.
Up Next: UCCS will compete in the first RMAC event of the season, hosted by Fort Lewis at Hillcrest Golf Course, on Sept. 22-23.
