The Colorado Avalanche now have the Northwest Division lead, moving two points ahead of Calgary and Minnesota by thumping Edmonton 5-1 last night. Up next for the Avs are the New Jersey Devils tomorrow night.
Jaroslav Hlinka and Tyler Arnason each had a goal and an assist to send the Avalanche to their eighth victory in nine games. Hlinka put the Avs ahead 2-0 just 18 seconds into the middle period before Arnason added a power-play goal just over three minutes later.
Jeff Finger, David Jones and Wojtek Wolski also scored for Colorado, which hadn't owned sole possession of the division lead since December 18th.
Peter Budaj made 12 of his 23 saves in the third period to secure the win.
Sam Gagner had a second-period goal for the Oilers.
