Renowned women's equality sports expert and three-time Olympic gold medalist Nancy Hogshead-Makar has been appointed Title IX adviser at the University of Colorado.

The position was created as part of the school's settlement of a football recruiting scandal.

Hogshead-Makar is a law professor at Florida Coastal School of Law, specializing in federal law that provides for equal treatment for women in sports.

CU announced her hiring yesterday.

She was a collegiate athlete at Duke University and qualified for the boycotted 1980 Olympics in Moscow.

Without admitting fault or liability, CU agreed in December to pay 2.85 million dollars and settle a lawsuit by two women who claimed they were gang-raped by football players and recruits at an off-campus party.
