The Colorado Avalanche have acquired defenseman Ruslan Salei from the Florida Panthers.

In return, the Avs give up the rights to Karlis Skrastins and give Florida a third-round pick in this year's draft.

The deal was announced Tuesday, a day after Colorado agreed to terms on a deal that brings former MVP Peter Forsberg back to Denver for the rest of the current season.

Colorado general manager Francois Giguere called Salei "a solid and reliable asset on the blue line."

The 33-year-old has spent 11 years in the NHL, the last two with Florida after nine with the Anaheim Ducks. He has missed just four games total in the past four seasons.

Last season he had six goals and 26 assists, both career highs.
