The Colorado Rockies today signed third baseman Garrett Atkins to a one-year contract worth almost four-point-four (m) million dollars.
Atkins was eligible for arbitration for the first time and asked for a raise from the 400-thousand dollars he was making when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. The deal includes provisions that can have Atkins earning more than 92-thousand dollars in performance bonuses.
Atkins batted .301 with 25 homers and 111 RBIs last season for the NL champions.
Pitcher Brian Fuentes and outfielder Brad Hawpe are the two players on the team raimaining in arbitration.
