The sixth-ranked Tigers, led by sophomore Mike Testwuide’s two goals and an assist, blasted Clarkson University by a 6-1 count to complete a weekend sweep of their two-game series at the World Arena, reach the 20-victory plateau for the 13th time in the last 15 years and keep their record on home ice at an unblemished 13-0 for the season.
This time, they wasted little time utilizing their speed to seize an upper hand against the ECAC-leading and 10th-ranked visitors from Potsdam, N.Y. Sophomore defenseman Brian Connelly skated around the Knights defense to put CC ahead 1-0 just 9:09 into the contest, and Testwuide’s power-play goal less than three minutes later proved to be all cushion that freshman goalies Richard Bachman and Tyler O’Brien would need. Second-period tallies by Testwuide, Bill Sweatt and Scott McCulloch upped the lead to 5-0 before Clarkson’s Tyrell Mason ruined Bachman’s shutout bid with a fluke goal in the opening minute of the third frame.
