Broncos Finish With 2nd Losing Season In Shanahan Era

The last time the Denver Broncos finished below .500 was 1999, when John Elway was learning what it was like to sleep late on Sundays and Terrell Davis blew out a knee.

This year, the Broncos will post a losing record for just the second time in the 13-year Mike Shanahan era, injuries and key departures again playing a part. The Broncos were assured of a losing season after losing to San Diego 23-to-3 last night.

Eight years ago, a letdown was expected following back-to-back Super Bowl wins. But the Broncos began this season with high hopes after an offseason spending spree and roster shuffle brought in Dre' Bly, Travis Henry and more.

The Broncos finish up against 8-and-7 Minnesota. The Vikings can still sneak into the N-F-C playoffs with a win and some help from Dallas, so they're going to be fired up to send Denver to its second 6-and-10 mark under Shanahan.
