Ryan Smyth set up Colorado's first two goals in a 3-1 triumph against Nashville.
The game was scoreless in the second period until Paul Stastny and Marek Svatos put the Avalanche ahead 2-0.
Martin Gelinas cut the Avs' lead in half late in the second period, but Justin Leopold restored Colorado's two-goal edge with his first goal of the season, tallying with 9:07 remaining.
Peter Budaj stopped 31 shots and had an assist on Svatos' goal.
