Denver Broncos defensive players are tired of hearing their struggles are due to a new scheme installed by first-year defensive coordinator Jim Bates.

They say they're taking responsibility for the poor play to start the season.

Conerback Champ Bailey says he doesn't blame the coaches. He says the players have to execute.

The defense simply could not get off the field Sunday in the Broncos' 23-14 loss to Jacksonville. The Jaguars marched down the field on 18 plays for a touchdown, eating up 11 minutes, 44 seconds on the way.

A healthy John Lynch would be a big help against Indianapolis Sunday. Lynch, a sure tackler, had an MRI yesterday after a strained groin sidelined him for most of the game against Jacksonville.

There's no official word on his status for this weekend.
