USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women’s soccer opened the 2014 season with a 1-0 loss to Montana Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. Montana scored in the 74th minute for the win.
Jamie Simon took a pass from Allie Lucas and fired from 20 yards out to the top of the net for the lone score of the match.
Air Force had a 15-14 advantage in shots, including 9-7 in shots on goal. Sophomore Madeleine Lundberg and freshman Brooke Rittmann led the Falcons with four shots and three shots on goal each. Freshman Meghan Strang had five saves in goal.
The Falcons started four freshmen and six total saw action in the season-opening loss. Natalee Dueber, Angela Karamanos, Rittmann and Strang started in their AFA debuts. Morgan Mavroudis and Megan Schulze also made their Falcon debuts. Sophomore Alison Skidmore also played her first-career match for the Falcons.
Air Force returns to action Friday, Aug. 29, hosting North Dakota State.
