ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos named Trinidad High School Head Coach Randy Begano as this week’s NFL High School Coach of the Week. Begano led his Class 2A Miners of the Peaks League to a 14-7 upset win over top ranked Florence last Friday.

“We just kind of dominated the line of scrimmage,” Begano said. “And we played great defense. We’re playing football like we used to.”

Begano, 53, was born in Raton, N.M., and was raised in Trinidad. He graduated from Trinidad High School in 1976 and attended Adams State College, where he earned a BA in secondary education in 1983 before earning a Master’s degree in physical education. He played quarterback at Trinidad and at Adams State where he was an all-conference selection his final three years. He currently teaches weightlifting at Trinidad and is the athletic director in addition to coaching the football team.

The Denver Broncos will recognize 10 High School Coach of the Week honorees during the regular season. Each weekly winner will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Youth Football Fund to be used in the school’s football program. Additionally, during the Broncos’ home game on January 1st, the NFL/Denver Broncos High School Coach of the Year will be named and presented with a $2,000 donation to the school’s football program. This year’s selection committee is led by Neil Devlin of the Denver Post and includes Ring of Fame Member Billy Thompson of the Denver Broncos and Andy Lindahl of KOA.
