DENVER — The Denver Broncos will unveil Ring of Fame Plaza at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Friday, Sept. 27, in a 6 p.m. event that will be open to the public and media.
Ring of Fame Plaza, located on the south end of the stadium, will feature pillars honoring each of the 24 players in the Broncos’ Ring of Fame, including center Tom Nalen, who is set to be recognized as the newest distinguished member at a private dinner on Sept. 27. Nalen also will be honored at a halftime ceremony during Denver’s home game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 29.
“The Bronco greats – our Ring of Famers – are most deserving of this recognition,” Broncos Owner & CEO Pat Bowlen said. “They have made a lasting impact on the Denver Broncos, and I have deep appreciation for what they have meant to this franchise.
“It’s important to honor their achievements at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, where our fans can share in their success and the proud history of the Broncos.”
The pillars are representative of the individuals as pillars of Broncos history and success. Each pillar, standing eight feet tall, is constructed of core ten steel with custom patina, with each tribute made entirely of bronze on steel. The display on each pillar features the individual’s face as an artistic expression in bronze along with a plaque that indicates the name and uniform number while detailing the player’s greatest accomplishments.
The Denver Broncos Ring of Fame was created in 1984 by Mr. Bowlen to honor former players and administrators who played significant roles in franchise history. Bringing honor to great members of team history by the Ring of Fame was one of the first major moves that Bowlen made as owner of the Broncos.
There is very fitting symbolism in that the 2013 season marks Mr. Bowlen’s 30th year as team owner, just the 13th National Football League owner ever to reach the 30-year mark.
This Plaza will stand as a unique public addition to the Ring of Fame, which exists on the Level 5 façade of Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
There will be additions to Ring of Fame Plaza over time, relative to both team and individual accomplishments. Ring of Fame Plaza will be free and open to the public at all times.
It is being created by the Denver Broncos with the consent and cooperation of the Metropolitan Football Stadium Board and its chairman, Ray Baker.
