ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Sunday agreed to terms with offensive tackle Ryan Clady on a new five-year contract through 2017, it was announced.
Clady (6-6, 315 pounds) is a sixth-year player and three-time Pro Bowl selection who has opened every possible game (80 reg. season / 3 postseason) for the Broncos since being drafted by the club in the first round (12th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.
He is just the fourth offensive linemen in NFL history to start every game and make at least three Pro Bowls during his first five seasons. Additionally, he is joined by Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr and Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco as the only players from the 2008 draft class to start every contest for his team.
In 2012, Clady earned his third career Pro Bowl nod and was named a first-team Associated Press All-Pro selection after allowing the fewest sacks in the league (1.0) among 16-game starting tackles. He also was chosen as a member of the USA Football All-Fundamentals Team for exhibiting exemplary football techniques for youth players to emulate.
Clady was the Broncos’ nomination for the Ed Block Courage Award in 2010 after recovering from an offseason knee injury to start all 16 games for the club.
Representing just the seventh offensive lineman to be selected in the first round by the Broncos when he was drafted in 2008, Clady immediately made his presence felt by not allowing a sack through his first 20 starts, marking the longest such stretch to begin a career since at least 1994.
He opened 37 of his 39 career games played at Boise State University, where he earned first-team All-Western Athletic Conference accolades during his final two seasons and was part of its undefeated team (13-0) in 2006.
A first-team All-Citrus Belt League defensive lineman at Eisenhower High School in Rialto, Calif., Clady was born on Sept. 6, 1986, in Long Beach, Calif.
