DENVER — The Denver Broncos will continue a long history of honoring veterans and active duty members of the military with their annual Salute to Service game on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers (2:25 p.m. MST kickoff) at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
USAA and OtterBox, which are serving as Sunday’s Salute to Service presenting sponsors, will provide wristbands and Orange Rally Towels, respectively, for the first 35,000 fans that enter the stadium.
Sunday’s pregame show will provide an “America” theme with performances by the Broncos Cheerleaders, 600 Junior Cheerleaders, the Stampede Drum Line, Mile High Tumblers and the Thunderstorm Skydivers.
The Broncos are also asking all fans to arrive early and join in the singing of the National Anthem. Immediately following the National Anthem, the VFC-13 Fighting Saints from the Naval Air Station in Fallon, Nev. (home of the TOPGUN Fighter Pilot Training School) will perform a flyover at 1,000 feet above the stadium.
The coin used during the coin toss in Sunday’s game is a Military Challenge Coin, traditionally used in the Armed Forces to recognize achievement and performance, was created by USAA specifically for the Salute to Service game. Joining Broncos captains for Sunday’s coin toss will be two members of the Wounded Warrior Transition Unit as well as Major General Joseph Anderson, Commanding General of the 4th Infantry Division and Ft. Carson.
Leading the Broncos out of the tunnel on Sunday will be 25 soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson Army Base. Earlier this week, Broncos players, cheerleaders, alumni and Miles the Mascot visited Fort Carson and met with over 2,000 members of the 4th I.D. and experienced a day in the life of a Soldier at the base.
When the Broncos take the field during Sunday’s game, insignias of all branches of the U.S. Military will be represented on their helmets as selected by each individual player.
Throughout the game, special military guests will be honored and recognized during the USAA Salute to Service Moments and as Broncos Country Heroes.
Sunday’s halftime show is presented by OtterBox and will salute the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Wounded Warriors. All groups will be presented with a game ball on behalf of the Denver Broncos by defensive end Ben Garland, a member of the club’s practice squad and a 1st Lieutenant in the Colorado Air National Guard. Halftime will also include special musical tributes and a message from U.S. Troops in Afghanistan.
