ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Sunday agreed to terms with punter Britton Colquitt on a three-year contract extension through the 2016 season, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway announced.
Colquitt (6-3, 205 pounds) is a fifth-year player and the franchise leader in career gross (46.1) and net (39.5) punting average. In 48 regular-season games, he has punted 254 times for 11,717 yards (46.1 avg.) with 79 placed inside the 20-yard line and just 18 touchbacks. He has played in three postseason contests, punting 16 times for 680 yards (42.5 gross / 39.4 net) with five kicks placed inside the 20 and zero touchbacks.
He broke his own franchise record with a 42.1 net punting average in 2012 that ranked third in the NFL, while placing second in the league holding opponents to a 6.0-yard return average. In 2011, Colquitt established single-season Broncos records in both gross (47.4) and net (40.2) punting average.
Signed by the Broncos as a college free agent in 2009, he spent portions of his rookie season on Miami’s practice squad and Denver’s active roster.
Colquitt averaged 42.6 yards on 209 career punts at the University of Tennessee, where he was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection. His father (Craig), brother (Dustin) and uncle (Jimmy) also punted for the Volunteers (and went on to play in the NFL).
An all-state performer at Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tenn., Colquitt was born on March 20, 1985.
