ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Wednesday placed tackle Ryan Clady on injured reserve and signed free-agent tackle Winston Justice, it was announced.
Clady, who on Sunday against the Giants suffered a Lisfranc joint tear in his left foot that will require surgery, is a three-time Pro Bowler who has started every possible game (82 reg. season, 3 postseason) for the Broncos since he was selected by the club with the 12th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. The second-longest tenured offensive player on the Broncos, Clady was voted a team captain for the first time prior to the start of the 2013 season.
His injury means Denver will start a player other than Clady at left tackle for the first time since Matt Lepsis in the Broncos’ 2007 regular-season finale.
Justice (6-6, 317 pounds) is an eighth-year player who has seen action in 59 career regular season games (43 starts / 42 at right tackle, 1 at left tackle) with Philadelphia (2006-11) and Indianapolis (2012). He also owns experience playing in six postseason contests (3 starts).
Selected by the Eagles in the second round (39th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft from the University of Southern California, he spent six seasons with Philadelphia and was named to USA Today’s All-Joe Team in 2009. He was traded to Indianapolis in 2012 and went on to start 12 regular-season games and one playoff contest for the club at right tackle.
An all-conference performer at the USC, Justice attended Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High School and was born on Sept. 14, 1984.
Note: Justice will wear jersey No. 77 for the Broncos.
