The Denver Broncos on Monday signed tight end Stephen Alexander and waived tackle Chad Mustard, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.
Alexander (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) is a 10th-year player in his third season with the Broncos who rejoins the club after he was waived on Saturday. He was on Denver’s roster for its season opener at Buffalo on Sept. 9 but was inactive during that contest.
In 118 career regular-season games (99 starts), Alexander has totaled 247 receptions for 2,519 yards (10.2 avg.) with 14 touchdowns for Denver (2005-07), Detroit (2004), San Diego (2002-03) and Washington (1998-2001). He entered the league with Washington as a second round (48th overall) choice in the 1998 NFL Draft from the University of Oklahoma.
Alexander, who attended Chickasha High School in Chickasha, Okla., was born Nov. 7, 1975.
