The Denver Broncos have acquired defensive end Le Kevin Smith from the New England Patriots, according to his agent.
Smith is a versatile 6-foot-3, 308-pound player from Nebraska who appeared in 28 games as a backup the last two seasons with the Patriots, who drafted him in the sixth round in 2006.
His agent, Adisa Bakari, suggested Smith has the athleticism, size and versatility to be a good fit in Denver.
Bakari told The Associated Press the 3-4 relies on an athletic 300-pound defensive end and "they don't make a lot of those guys anymore."
The Denver Post first reported the trade on its Web site on Monday. It wasn't immediately clear what the Patriots got in return for Smith, but it was likely a late-round draft choice.
